Home Testing

Over the years, Tasos Construction LLC has visited hundreds of homes.  It is very rare when we find a home that can’t be improved.  Most homes have several ways that energy efficiency can be increased.

BLOWER DOOR TESTS

A blow test measures the airtightness of homes or buildings and is a great way to learn where energy inefficiencies are located

Some great reasons for establishing the proper building tightness:

  • Reduce energy consumption due to air leakage
  • Avoiding moisture condensation problems
  • Avoiding uncomfortable drafts caused by cold air leaking in from the outdoors
  • Making sure that the home’s air quality is not too contaminated by indoor air pollution.

How A Blow Test Works

A powerful fan is mounted into the frame of an exterior door.  The fan pulls air out of the house, lowering the air pressure inside. The higher outside air pressure then flows in through all unsealed cracks and openings.  These tests then allow Tasos Construction LLC to determine the air infiltration rate of a home or building.

Blower doors consist of a frame and flexible panel that fit in a doorway, a variable-speed fan, a pressure gauge to measure the pressure differences inside and outside the home, and an airflow manometer and hoses for measuring airflow.

SMOKE PENCIL

Tasos Construction LLC uses smoke pencils to test the air tightness of a home. Smoke pencils can be used to effectively pinpoint the air leaks in a variety of places throughout your home.

Testimonials

“I have worked with Steve and Tasos for several years. They know that I am dedicated to high performance homes at a reasonable cost and they have always delivered with good and conscientious work.

It can be difficult to upgrade an old Portland home to a high level of efficiency and comfort. Air sealing and insulation is the first and most important step to bring an old house up to a 21st century standard of performance. To achieve this high efficiency, spray foam is very near the only silver bullet out there, but spray foam is a material that does require both experience and technical expertise. I know I can turn to Tasos Construction for both. I have done several whole house retrofits and some attic only jobs with Tasos and every time clients notice an immediate difference. You will wonder why you put up with a drafty old house for so long.”
